RHS - 2009-2011 Advertising
There's more to the RHS Flower Shows than Pimms and fragrant ladies. They have their own distinct personality, features and strengths and are often surprising in the diversity and quality of what they have to offer.
The three year account was won after a five way pitch, the brief was to create campaign creative and marketing collateral for the four annual RHS shows, Chelsea, Hampton Court, Tatton and Cardiff.
I worked closely with the Creative Director on concepts, visualisation and production of the core images across all four shows for the first year of the contract. And I was given sole responsibility for years 2 and 3 of the Cardiff show creative.
Cardiff was probably the hardest sell - Chelsea tickets were sold before they were even printed and both Hampton court and Tatton were both seen as very prestigious events.
The Cardiff shows roots and selling point lie in it's green credentials and its nationality - proud to be Welsh. I found, commissioned, liaised and managed Welsh artists to produce sculptures that represented these themes, the first daffodil (2010) being recycled and constructed entirely out of found objects, the second was beautifully crafted by wicker artist - Purple Sue.
The results, well I think they're pretty impressive - 2009 saw an increase in visitor numbers from just 4,000 to 16,000, 2010 - 19,000 and 2011 - 22,000.
You could say those figures are 'Bloomin marvellous!'
